Greek Life Perspectives

Greek Life Perspectives is a mandatory anti-hazing program implemented by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (a department within the Division of Student Affairs) for Undergraduate students interested in joining fraternities or sororities. This comprehensive educational workshop is designed to help prospective members navigate the Membership Intake Process (MIP) and understand the expectations of Greek Life community members at Southern University and A&M College.

The program typically covers several key areas:

  1. University Requirements: Students learn about the specific criteria they must meet to be eligible for Greek Life membership, such as maintaining an overall GPA of 2.75, completing a certain number of credit hours, and being in good academic and disciplinary standing.
  2. Greek Life Overview: Participants gain general information about Greek organizations on SUBR’s campus, including their purposes and the positive impact they can have on campus life.
  3. Anti-Hazing Education: The workshop discusses the implications of hazing at university, state, and federal levels, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment for all members.
  4. Leadership and Personal Development: Students explore the benefits of involvement in Greek Life, including opportunities for enhancing leadership skills and personal growth.
  5. Community Service: Highlight the importance of community service within Greek organizations and may outline service hour requirements.

Upon successful completion of the Greek Life Perspectives workshop, students' names are typically added to a database acknowledging their eligibility to participate in the membership intake process. It's important to note that while completing this program is mandatory for those seeking to join a fraternity or sorority, it does not guarantee membership in any organization.

By requiring this program, Southern University and A&M College aims to ensure that students make informed decisions about joining Greek Life organizations and are well-prepared for the responsibilities and expectations that come with membership.
