Feb. 3 deadline for Pinkie Gordon Lane Poetry Contest

The deadline is drawing near for the John B. Cade Library's second Pinkie Gordon Lane Poetry Contest. It is open to all 9th-12th graders and Southern University students. 

Entrants may submit no more than three poems of up to 35 lines each.
Contestants win an Apple iPod, Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle Fire or an Amazon Kindle Touch.
Poems can be on any subject matter and in any format, and is the original work of the entrant. Submit poems by Feb. 3 to pinkieglane@cox.net and at the library website, www.lib.subr.edu. Poems can be mailed.

The competition is named in honor of the late Pinkie Gordon Lane who served as the chair of the English Department at Southern from 1974 until her retirement in 1986. Lane was the first African-American woman to receive a Ph.D. from LSU and was Poet Laureate of Louisiana from 1989-1993.
