Insurance industry opportunities stressed at symposium

The insurance industry has variety of jobs open and students should consider investigating the possibilities in the insurance field, state and international industry officials told business students on Tuesday.

 

The students were also told at the “Careers in Finance and Insurance Symposium” in T.T. Allain Hall that important the insurance industry is in help risk management with a business.

 

The symposium was co-sponsored by Southern University’s College of Business and the Louisiana Department of Insurance Office of Minority Affairs. The event also promoted the Southern University Insurance Institute created by the Department of Insurance and the College of Business on the Baton Rouge campus for students interested in the insurance industry as a career.

 

Patrick Bell, Deputy Commissioner of Division of Minority Affairs of the Louisiana Department of Insurance, introduced the guest speakers who are a part of the International Fellow program.

 

The speakers included Dr. Sam C. Onyeka and Dr. Talmiz Usman, assistant directors from the National Insurance Commission in Abuja Nigeria. They described the many areas of job opportunities in the insurance industry.

 

Dr. Donald Andrews, Dean of College of Business, stressed to students that the insurance industry could be helpful with risk management that businesses face and help restore them during disasters.
