Turkish education officials visit Southern to review English program

More high-ranking education officials from Turkey are visiting Southern University as the Baton Rouge campus strengthens its partnership with Kirikkale University.

Dr. Ekrem Yildiz, chancellor of Kirikkale and Dr. Hakan Kocamis, the vice chancellor visited Monday with SUBR Chancellor Dr. James L. Llorens, Dr. Barbara Carpenter, dean of International Education and Dr. Osman Kandara, an associate professor in computer science and university liaison for Turkey.

The officials came to review the English Language Training Program that 11 faculty members from Turkey are currently involved in on the Baton Rouge campus. They also signed an addition to an earlier agreement with SU that will increase faculty and student exchanges, Carpenter said.

The students from Turkey are part of an exchange program and partnership the university has with five universities, including Kirikkale, in Turkey. The partnership is an effort to provide English education and to eventually have students from Turkey to attend Southern.
