Retired Southern University professor publishes first children's book

Retired Southern University professor Dr. Eva Kleinpeter has published her first children’s book titled “Ten Little Squirrels Playing in a Big Tall Oak Tree.”

The book, published by PublishAmerica, LLLP, encourages elementary school age children to use critical thinking and math skills. The book also helps children with decision-making skills, she said.

“At a time where kids are being bullied and under a lot of peer pressure it is nice that the students have a book that they can identify with,” Kleinpeter said.

In the past several months, she has read the book to over 200 students in elementary schools in the Baton Rouge area. “They all seem to like it,” she said.

Her book is sold on Amazon.com and on campus at University Bookstore, she said.

Kleinpeter has written over 12 books, two are in the process of being published and she is currently editing several sequels to “Ten Little Squirrels.”

Kleinpeter retired from Southern in 2011, but continues to volunteer in programs on the campus. She also volunteers in the East Baton Rouge School System where she spends many hours helping children every week.

“I love working with and helping children,” she said.
