Southern's Judy James named music fraternity's 'Advisor of the Year'

Judy Guilbeaux-James has been named Mu Phi Epsilon International Professional Music Fraternity Advisor of the Year 2012-2013, the first for Southern University.

The coveted award is given to one faculty advisor among those from over 100 Mu Phi Epsilon chapters in the U.S., the Philippines and Canada.

"I believe that this accomplishment would not have been possible without the wonderful, honest and talented students I work with," James said. "They are always learning and sometimes that learning is derived through mistakes and humbling themselves by adhering to the consequences."

Mu Phi Epsilon is a music fraternity with national and international chapters. The fraternity supports achievement in music through the awarding of grants and scholarships, as well as music competitions, concerts, and summer music programs. The Baton Rouge Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon is the first alumni chapter in Louisiana.

Rosemary Ames, International President of Mu Phi Epsilon International Professional Music Fraternity, announced James' award during a recent visit with Southern's Beta Zeta chapter of the fraternity.
