Southern University graduate, Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré will be one of a select group of people invited to participate in the "Hero Summit" being presented Oct. 10 in Washington, D.C., by the popular news website The Daily Beast.

The invitation-only live journalism event will feature panel discussions and interviews with some of the world's most influential figures. The summit will showcase stories from military leaders, decorated veterans, Nobel Prize winners, politicians and journalists. They all will be speaking about issues of service and heroism.

The participants will talk about how they make the tough decisions in real time to save lives, homes and cities.

Included on the panel with Honoré will be: Gov. John Hickenlooper, governor of Colorado, which dealt the deadly and devastating flooding in September; and William McNulty, co-founder and Vice President, Team Rubicon, a disaster response veteran service organization.

Some of the others invited to the event include, Sen. John McCain, Nobel Laureate Wole Woyinka, former CIA Director Michael Hayden, New York Times Columnist David Brooks, and Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sgt. Ty McCant, U.S. Army.
