3/18/2014

Southern University graduate student Hesham Elashhab recently won the best oral presentation in the computer science category at the 88th annual meeting of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences.

The event, held March 8 at Louisiana State University at Alexandria, included participants from universities and colleges across the state.

Elashhab, a computer science graduate, offered his presentation on "Analysis of compression algorithms in wireless senor network." His research was based on the computation of discrete cosine transform for data compression.

His research is highly incorporated within the SU robotics lab, which is developed by the Department Chair Dr. Ebrahim Khosravi. Elashhab was supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdus.

"I was really honored to represent my department and my university, said Elashhab, a 34-year-old graduate student from Libya. "It really felt great to win the award."
