SU professor's work part of New York art exhibit

5/18/2015

BATON ROUGE, La. - Randell Henry, associate professor and guest curator of the Southern University Visual Arts Gallery, will be featured in a major exhibition of art in New York City.

"60 Americans," an exhibition that will offer an alternative perspective on what's arguably relevant and important in the current landscape of American contemporary art, opens with a reception on Thursday, May 21, at Elga Wimmer Gallery at 526 West 26th St. The exhibition will be up until June 14.

The New York exhibition is among several recent showings for the Southern University professor. In 2014, a large painting by Henry was shown in "Visual Blues," an exhibition of works by famous African American artists of the Harlem Renaissance to honor local artists who were inspired by these great artists.

Three of his works were included in a 2015 exhibition at The Louisiana Arts and Science Museum to highlight contemporary abstract artists from Baton Rouge who have made an impact on the vibrant Louisiana art scene.

His works were also featured in the Jurors Exhibition in the LSU Union Art Gallery earlier this year.
