Alumni President Castille receives ‘Citizen Lawyer Award’

Southern University's National Alumni Federation President Preston J. Castille, Jr. has been selected as a recipient of the Louisiana State Bar Association' "Citizen Lawyer Award."

The award is given to Castille "for his noteworthy contributions to the community of the Baton Rouge area through volunteer work," according to a press release from the Taylor Porter law firm in Baton Rouge. Castille, an SU graduate, is a partner in the Taylor Porter law firm.

The award was created in 2001 to recognize outstanding lawyers and judges who have performed significant volunteer services, the release said.

Castille received his Juris Doctor from Tulane University School of Law in 1994. He is a member of Taylor Porter's Executive Committee. He serves as outside general counsel to numerous private, public and governmental entities.

Castille is ranked in Best Lawyers in America in the fields of Administrative Law and Insurance Law.

The former SU Student Government Association President is a major supporter of the SU Laboratory, and a guiding force behind its Mini Lab educational program.

Castille is active in various education-related organizations including New Schools for Baton Rouge and several charter school organizations. He serves on the Greater Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce Business Advisory Committee.

He taught at LSU Law School for eight years and has been teaching at Southern University Law Center since 2003.
