Summer Commencement to be held Aug. 2

As summer kicks off another month, more than 100 students will graduate from Southern University on Friday, Aug. 2 at the F. G. Clark Activity Center. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Graduates will receive undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in a variety of disciplines, including the arts, sciences and technology. Railen Parker, a candidate for the Bachelor of Science in speech-language pathology, has earned the title of chief student marshal for this commencement. A New Orleans native, Parker plans to attend Xavier University to receive her master’s degree in speech-language pathology.

Domoine Rutledge, Southern University System Board of Supervisors chairman, will serve as the commencement speaker. Rutledge, a native of Baton Rouge, currently serves as vice president and general counsel at CSRS Inc. In this dual capacity, he provides oversight and management of all legal affairs of the company and serves as Education Market Sector Leader, which includes K-12 and higher education. Prior to joining CSRS Inc., Rutledge served more than 15 years as general counsel of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and chief legal adviser to the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board.
