SU wins 10k for scholarships in NCAA 6thFan contest

The National Collegiate Athletic Association's 6th Fan Contest announced Monday, Feb. 17, the top 16 schools that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, awarding each school $10,000 in general scholarship funds and placing them in the Elite Eight round.

Southern University was able to make it to the Sweet Sixteen round because of the effort of SU Athletics, staff, students and SU fans voting and getting the word out to vote daily for Southern.

Southern was knocked out of the contest at the end of the second round, Sunday, Feb. 23, by the University of Central Florida.

The NCAA, CBS Sports and Turner Sports organized the online competition.
