SU offers sympathy to families of mining victims in Turkey

Southern University joins hands with its friends in Turkey today as the country deals with a devastating mining disaster that has killed at least 245 coal miners in the town of Soma.

SU has an educational partnership and student exchange program agreement with the higher education system in Turkey.  SU administrators and faculty will be traveling to Turkey to further develop the partnership. Some Turkish students, faculty and administrators have already studied on the Baton Rouge campus.

Southern sends its condolences to the people of Soma and others who have been affected by the mining disaster along with the families of more than 200 workers still reported trapped in the mines.
