Center for Service Learning completes another successful food drive

The Center for Service Learning completed its annual food drive earlier this week and gave barrels of canned goods and non-perishable items to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

The food was collected from March 2 through March 31. The donations came from faculty, staff and students of Service Learning. The items included canned vegetables, soups, beans, rice, pasta, cookies and other many other dry goods.

"It has been an absolute pleasure working with the Service Learning students each year to make this a reality. The students unselfishly give and expect nothing in return," said Kristan A. Gordon, Coordinator of the Center for Service Learning.

The Center, Gordon said, operates by the motto of the 14th Dalai Lama: "It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others".

The Center for Service Learning and Service Learning students were recognized in 2014 by the Greater Baton Food Bank for donating enough food to provide 735 meals.

"We are excited to meet or exceed that donation this year," Gordon said.
