Southern University officials met this week with officials from Louisiana Economic Development and the new IBM Product Development Center, under construction in downtown Baton Rouge, to discuss the training and recruitment of SU computer science majors.

Southern University and A&M College, School of Nursing, Graduate Programs in Nursing, is hosting an on-site evaluation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) on January 21-23, 2015 as part of the accreditation process for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

John Warner Smith, a Southern University adjunct professor, recently published a poetry collection titled “A Mandala of Hands.”

NICHE.com, an education ranking website, has selected Southern University and A&M College as the 10th best among Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

When Southern University Jaguar defensive back Jamaal Ali Martin decided to be the best he could be academically, he never had a vision of being anything other than a very good college student. "It was solely to prove everybody who doubted me, or counted me out, wrong," Martin says. "Now I can say 'I told you so.'"

On Dec. 3, SU alum and Baton Rouge high school biology teacher, Crystal Williams Gordon was acknowledged in The Advocate newspaper for winning the Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence.
