Southern University launches campus-wide relief initiative for families in Jamaica impacted by Hurricane Melissa
The Southern University Office of International Affairs and University Outreach has launched a campus-wide recovery initiative to support families and communities in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa.
“It’s important that we unite as a community to support our students, faculty, and their families during this difficult time,” said Barbara W. Carpenter, dean of International Affairs and University Outreach. “When we all come together, our efforts are not in vain.”
Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to donate toiletries, medical supplies (including bandages and masks), nonperishable food items, and personal hygiene products. Monetary donations are also being accepted to help purchase tarps and solar generators.
Monetary donations will be accepted through Dec. 5, while all other supplies will be accepted through Dec. 10. Supplies will be sent directly to support recovery efforts in Jamaica and to assist Southern University faculty and students whose families have been directly impacted by the hurricane.
Donations may be dropped off at the Office of International Affairs and University Outreach, located on the second floor of the J.S. Clark Building Annex, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 10.
