Smith-Brown Memorial Union

The Smith-Brown Memorial Union is named in honor of Leonard D. Brown and Denver Smith who were slain during a 1972 student demonstration.

Our mission is to meet the total needs of the Southern University community. The Smith-Brown Memorial Union is a multi-purpose facility serving students, faculty, staff and community. The union complements the academic experience through an extensive variety of cultural, educational, social, governance and recreational programs. The union is a student-centered facility that values participatory decision-making. Through volunteerism, committees and student employment, the union offers firsthand experience in citizenship and educates students in leadership, social responsibilities, and values.
