3rd Place Winner – Enne Samuel

“I Think I Want to Eat Dirt”

And make a home in the richness beneath

Stampeding existencies.

Oh, to lose myself in the timbre of listless feet

Above my head, couples with

The flavouring of earth….

What would it be like?

Cloudy and ethereal? Sulfuric and torturous? I

Don’t know what, but

Does it matter?

I know I want to eat dirt. My body

Yawns for stillness underneath.

If only so the aches would cease, and so

The days would no longer dry out

What shrinking violets I’ve got left.

I wonder if it’s cold down there? If I should

Bring a blanket. If I should

Bring fire.

(Does fire have calories?)

I

Am going

To eat

Dirt.
