Southern University Student Rehabilitation Association
The Southern University Student Rehabilitation Association was established in November 2000 as a project in Dr. Washington’s graduate introduction to the Rehabilitation Course. This organization started as a commitment to supporting professional development amongst students and the expansion into the rehabilitation field.
With the motto 'Lifting as we climb,' S.U.S.R.A. is committed to inclusivity and diversity. This organization aims to create environments where every voice is heard, valued, and respected. S.U.S.R.A. is dedicated to cultivating a dynamic community that fosters personal growth, academic excellence, and positive social impact.
Sigma Upsilon Chi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota
Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) is a Counseling, Academic, and Professional Honor Society International. The mission of the Society is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, and excellence in counseling and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the counseling profession. CSI has over 160,000 members in 445 chapters nationally and internationally who have been initiated into the Society. Also, there are more than 360 chapters nationally and internationally.
In 1985, Dr. Madan Kundu established the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Rho Chi Sigma (RCS), the National Rehabilitation Counseling and Services Honor Society International. In 1988, RCS merged with the Sigma Upsilon Chi Chapter (SUC) of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) in the Department of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (now Rehabilitation, Disability Studies, and Counseling). Since then, SUC has inducted 219 high-achieving students, faculty, and professionals in rehabilitation.
