SU students take first place in marketing competition

Southern University business students won first place at the recent 3M Frontline Sales Initiative competition in St. Paul, Minn.


Students in Sales for Social Impact Course, sponsored by the 3M Corporation, had to develop a sales and marketing plan that would help them better understand how to build skills to market a real product that would contribute to the social welfare of their citizens.


Lauri Patterson, who also developed the course, taught the SSI course during the Fall 2012 semester. The class helped students develop a sales and marketing plan to empower women in Ethiopia.


On November 30, the students presented their sales and marketing plan to the 3M vice presidents and top corporate sales executives in St. Paul. The presentation by Southern’s students was selected first from a group of nine presentations from various corporate-partner universities.


The Fall 2012 Sales for Social Impact course included: Affuembey Affuembey, Briana Brownlee, Keila Burnett, Stephanie Chatman and Justin Evans.


Others involved were the instruction, Patterson and teaching assistants Lauren Fisher and Enjoli Reynolds. The administrative coordinator was Marilyn Doherty.
