Business and Industry Cluster at Southern University

The Southern University Business and Industry Cluster is a dynamic student-oriented organization that, since 1950, has promoted active dialogue between businesses and the University, helping identify, develop, and implement programs that facilitate students' transition from academia into professional communities. Cluster members voluntarily serve as change agents on issues of mutual concern and benefit to industry and education.

The cluster at Southern University is coordinated by two chairpersons, one representing the University and another representing business and industry. The chairpersons oversee four committees concerned with student recruitment and retention; program development; human resources; and Cluster membership. The two chairpersons assist a co-chairperson from the University and a co-chairperson from business and industry on each committee. Cluster meets twice a year, with a fall meeting held in September and a spring meeting in February. Both meetings are held in conjunction with the University's Career Exploration Day.

These meetings provide a forum for constructive member input on presented University projects and programs. Specific concerns and interests that reflect the needs of a company or agency may also be addressed at this time. Also, by using this time to select for funding faculty, staff, and student proposals, Cluster members further support important ideas.
