Southern University’s Dr. Rao M Uppu, a professor and Director of the Environmental Toxicology Ph.D. program at Southern University, has recently been elected as a "Fellow" of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS).

Justin Patterson, mass communications major from New Orleans, has launched a video, “Jaguars Go Hard,” dedicated to the 2013 Jaguar football team. Patterson, also known as “J-Spitta,” performed and wrote the lyrics. Shelton Scales Jr., “JScalez,” a junior, mechanical engineering major, produced the song and SU alum Kendal Odum edited the video. “Jaguars Go Hard’’ also features the SU cheerleaders, Gold-N-Bluez dancers and the Woop Woop Boys. Jonas Vanderbilt, coordinator of Students Programs and Greek Life, choreographed the video.

Dr. Diola Bagayoko, the Southern University System Distinguished Professor of Physics, has received a $50,000 grant from the United States Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Southern University is being represented by seven SU students in Washington D.C. at the 13th Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Leadership Conference, today through Nov. 12.

Southern University is working to “Go Green” and one big step is to change the graduation caps and gowns for ones made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.
