More than 500 to graduate from Southern University and A&M College on December 15

More than 500 students will participate in Southern University and A&M College’s Fall Commencement on Friday, Dec. 15 in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on campus. The diverse group of graduates will receive bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Newly commissioned officers in the ROTC programs will also be recognized as their U.S. military assignments are announced.

 

The keynote speaker for the occasion is Bishop Joseph W. Walker III, senior leader of the historic Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Nashville, Tennessee. The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the University.

 

The chief student marshal is Jalexis Edwards. The Prichard, Alabama, native is an alumna of the Alabama School of Math and Science. With a 3.9 GPA, she will be receiving a bachelor’s degree in English from Southern.

 

Commencement is free and open to the public. No tickets are needed. Seating begins at 9 a.m. and free public parking is available outside the venue.
