Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program was established in 1986 and graduated its first cohort of 14 students in 1988.  The program is nationally recognized for its innovation in nursing education and success in educating minority students from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

The BSN Program is the largest producer of African American nurses in the state and the third-largest producer of African American baccalaureate-prepared nurses in the United States, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education. The BSN program is nationally recognized for enrolling the largest number of African male nursing students in the country known as the Men of SUSON.  The School of Nursing has received numerous national and state recognitions for excellence, including being voted Best Nursing School in the United States by Nurse.org for 2024 and ranked in the Top 10% of Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs by U.S. News & World Report for 2025.
