May 2011- Congratulations to Dr. Telles for receiving a 2011 American Society of Cell Biology MAC Visiting Professorship (VP) Award at the Virginia School of Medicine

April 2011 - Dr. Eduardo Martinez-Ceballos received the "Faculty Researcher of the Year in the Natural Sciences" award from the College of Sciences of Southern University.

April 2011 - Dr. Deidra Atkins-Ball and Dr. Caroline Telles have been selected to attend the National Human Genome Research Institute's 2011 Summer Workshop in Genomics (Short Course) in Bethesda, Maryland.

March 2011 - Dr. Yetunde Ogunkoya received a FAST (Faculty And Student Team) Fellowship at Brookhaven National Laboratory for the Summer of 2011. The biology majors who received the award with her are: Ms. Kiara Henderson and Ms. Amber Jarrell.

March 2011 - Dr. Oswald D'Auvergne accompanied the Chancellor to Anchorage, Alaska for a series of meetings with representatives from the Alaska Bureau of Land Management, the University of Alaska and Michigan Tech Research Institute

March 2011 - Dr. Lynn Loftin's manuscript, "Will overfishing and Proposed Mississippi River Diversions Imperil Louisiana Oyster Fisheries? Commentary and Review" has been accepted for publication in the Gulf of Mexico Science.

March 2011 - Dr. Caroline Telles has been selected to receive a Faculty Enhancement Award sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).

February 2011 - Dr. Willis Jacob received a FASEB MARC travel award to attend EB 2011 from April 9-13, 2011 in Washington, DC. Two students also received a travel award with Dr. Jacob. These students are: Felton Brown and Christopher Ward.

November 2010. Dr. Eduardo Martinez-Ceballos received the '2009-2010 Outstanding Service Award' from the Honors College at their Pinning Ceremony.

October 2010. Dr. Nusrat Naqvi completed a two-year term (2008-2010) as the 12th president of APSENA, the Association of Pakistani Scientists and engineers of North America (First Female to serve this office) and handed over the charge to the newly elected president in VA on Oct. 16-17, 2010.

October 2010. Dr. Nusrat Naqvi attended the Fourth International and 11th National conference of IMI in Washington, DC held at Hyatt Regencey at Capitol Hill. She chaired and co-chaired two sessions and was the main speaker of a workshop on YOUTH MENTORING.

October 2010. Dr. Fitzgerald Spencer recently made an oral presentation of a research paper entitled 'Variability in neuroendocrine regulated decidual/placental proliferative mechanisms in response to neurogenic stimulation' at the 16th International Congress of the International Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Venice, Italy.
