Stewart named Southern University alumni affairs director
Kendric D. Stewart, a three-time graduate of Southern University was recently appointed director of alumni affairs for Southern University. This is a new appointment in the Southern University System and was approved by the Board of Supervisors at the May board meeting.
As director of alumni affairs, Stewart is responsible for the planning, implementation and management of programs and projects that strategically engage alumni in strengthening programs for current students and alumni of the Southern University System. Stewart reports to the System vice president for external affairs and university relations, and is a member of the Southern’s advancement team. Stewart will also serve as the executive director of the Southern University Alumni Federation and is an ex-officio member of the Federation’s Executive Board.
For more than 15 years, Stewart has led information security in the corporate sector. He most recently served as director of security operations at Stanford University’s Children's Hospital in California. His focus was on identifying areas of risk and shaping the hospital’s information security strategy, architecture, and vision. Also, Stewart has worked with national teams such as the FBI as well as state officials to investigate issues or breaches.
A veteran of the United States Army, Stewart served eight years in service and fought in Operation Enduring Freedom in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and peace missions in Japan.
Stewart received a bachelor’s degree in urban forestry, a master’s degree in social sciences, and a Ph.D. in Urban Forestry and Natural Resources, all from Southern University. His dissertation research focused on toxicity levels and environmental water pollution in his hometown of Franklinton, Louisiana.
Stewart is married to Kiera Stewart, a two-time graduate of Southern University, and they have two children. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
