International Student Admissions

 

International Freshmen

Freshman international students must have completed a recognized secondary program comparable to U.S. high school graduation requirements, and have academic records comparable to those required to meet the freshman admission criteria. Freshman international applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • A TOEFL score of 500 (173 on the computer based test) on the paper based test

All admitted students must have sufficient knowledge of the English language to benefit from a program of study. All undergraduates whose first language is not English must take the test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL).


International Transfer Students

Transfer international students must have completed a recognized secondary program and meet transfer admission criteria. Transfer International applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Be eligible to return to the institution from which s/he is transferring;
  • Have earned at least a 2.0 GPA on all college work attempted; and
  • Have need for no more than one developmental course. Students in need of more than one developmental course will not be eligible for admission to Southern University.

All admitted students must have sufficient knowledge of the English language to benefit from a program of study. All undergraduates whose first language is not English must take the test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL).


All International applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • A score of 500 or above on the TOEFL(submit original)
  • Official High School Transcript
  • Official /Original West African Examination Scores for students of West Africa
  • Current NOTARIZED Affidavit of Financial Support (Original)
  • Copy of Immunization Form
  • Copy of your resident card
  • Letter of Good Conduct

*Note: New Freshman International students from foreign institutions must have high school transcripts evaluated by the World Education Service (WES) or one of the following companies listed before submitting to the Southern University Office of Admissions and Recruitment.
