Students Rights & Responsibilities

Each student has the right to:

  1. Information regarding his/her award amount, rate of pay, and the average number of hours to be worked each week.
  2. A specific job description, as well as the supervisor's expectations and standards.
  3. A clearly defined work schedule that allows the student sufficient study time.
  4. Adequate training to perform assigned tasks.
  5. Regular supervision and review of work performed.
  6. A clear explanation of the procedures for submitting completed time sheets and receiving paychecks.
  7. Instructions regarding procedures for submitting completed time sheets and receiving paychecks.
  8. Instructions regarding procedures for submitting completed time sheets and receiving paychecks.
  9. Instructions regarding proceudures for submitting completed time sheets and receiving paychecks.
  10. Instructions regarding procedures to be followed if the student cannot report for a scheduled work period.
  11. A procedure stating concerns related to the job or the supervisor.
Each student has the responsibility to:
  1. Become familiar with information provided regarding the terms of the Federal Work Study award and with general student employee policies and procedures.
  2. Understand the specific job responsibilities as well as the supervisors expectations and standards.
  3. Report to the place of employment immediately following placement.
  4. Arrange a mutually agreeable work schedule with the supervisor and work the assigned hours regularly. The student is expected to arrange his/her work schedule so that it does not conflict with his/her classes. If a student is participating in extracurricular activities, the practice hours cannot be counted as work-study hours and are not to be recorded on the work study time sheet. Notify the supervisor immediatley if a scheduled work period must be missed.
  5. Accurately record hours worked, submit completed time sheets with the proper signatures and pick up paychecks according ot the schedule provided by the Studemt Employment Office.
  6. Ensure that his/her supervisor submits his/her work study time sheet on the designated date.
  7. Perform assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

Reminder:

A student is employed by the department/supervisor in the contract. He/She is not allowed to tranfer to another department until the next semester. Once a student is terminiated, he/she is not eligible for work-study for that semester.
