Dietetic Internship
Application/Acceptance Procedure
The program accepts a maximum of 12 students in each new class yearly. The internship begins in August and ends in May, 9 months or a 40 week program.
Admission Requirements:
- Overall grade point average of 3.0 or above, and 3.2 or higher in dietetics courses, based on a 4.0 scale. Official transcripts will be reviewed for fulfillment of this requirement and recency of education.
- GRE scores will be exempt for this application period due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
- Type, variety, length and quality of work experience (Dietetics other fields), volunteer
- work, community service.
- Quality of letter of application: Evaluation for content, ability to follow instructions, insights into personal and professional goals.
- Quality of internship video questionnaire responses.
- Current resume.
- References (reviewed for insight into your personal and professional abilities).
- Overall compliance with application requirements
Application Procedure:
Southern University's Dietetic Internship is using the on-line centralized internship application, Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Service (DICAS), which may be accessed at https://portal.dicas.org or by calling 617-612-2855. The on-line application must be completed for the program by 11:59 pm Central Time on February 15, 2022. The fee to use DICAS is $40 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application, payable to DICAS.
Additional:
You are required to submit directly to the Internship program by mail, a non-refundable $50 (money order/cashier's check - no personal checks) program processing fee before February 15, 2022. The money order/cashier's check for $50.00 must be made payable to SU Dietetics Internship Program.

Applications become the property of Southern University Dietetic Internship program. No application materials will be returned.
Digital Computer Matching
All applicants must also submit an application to D&D Digital, our matching company. Applicants will apply online or download the forms and mail them to D&D Digital. A nonrefundable check or money order (Payable to D&D Digital) or $50.00 must accompany the application which must be postmarked on or before February 15, 2022.
Mailed materials should be sent by certified mail with return receipt requested to provide written verification for the applicant of on time mailing and receipt by D&D, if needed.

Information to be sent to the program:
To complete the application process all supplemental materials must be mailed to the Internship Director postmarked by February 15, 2022 for the April appointment date, April 22, 2022. The supplemental application materials are:
- Cashier's check or money order for $50.00 made payable to SU Dietetic Internship Program (Cash or personal checks will not be accepted).
- Resume
- Jump drive with video interview questionnaire
Applications will not be evaluated without ALL required materials. These must be mailed together in the same envelope. The packet contents should be placed in a manila file folder with your name and school granting your degree on the tab.
The Dietetic Internship entrance date is August 5, 2022 (Tentative). Orientation begins the second week of August following the University calendar.

Handling of Incomplete Applications
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the Dietetic Internship Applicant Selection Committee. Therefore, all material required to complete the application packet must be received by the DICAs deadline date.
Disposition of Application Materials
Unsuccessful applications will be destroyed at the close of the selection process.
Schedule of Application Dates:
1. Earliest date for receipt of applications- January 15, 2022
2. Application must be postmarked by February 15, 2022
3. Deadline for receipt of postmarked application- February 21, 2022
Acceptance Procedure/Appointment Day
D&D will notify each applicant of their status in regard to program matching 1-2 days prior to appointment day. Dietetic Internships (DI) will be notified at the same time.
Matched applicants must email a formal letter (valerie.richardson@sus.edu) to the Program Director to confirm the acceptance or rejection of the computer match by April 6, 2022.
Additional Requirements AFTER Internship Admission:
Admission to the Southern University Graduate School
Students accepted into the Dietetic Internship must apply for admission to the Graduate School of Southern University. Following the April appointment date, applicants who have been accepted into the Internship should submit the Graduate School Application
(Further instructions will be sent to you in your SUDI acceptance letter). This application, official transcript from each college or university attended and a $25.00 application fee (money order or bank cashier check only) must be returned to the Graduate School by April 15, 2022 (Tentative) for Fall semester admission. A $20.00 Late Application Fee will be charged after this date.
Medical Evaluation
Dietetic Interns must meet the immunization and health requirements of each practice site. Acceptance into the Dietetic Internship is contingent upon meeting these requirements during the general orientation. Students who do not meet the health requirements will be asked to leave the Internship.
