Southern University inviting high school seniors to ‘Roundup’

High school seniors are invited to Southern University's annual Round-up on the Bluff set for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Southern had a 40 percent increase in its freshman class this fall when over 1,100 first-time freshmen enrolled.

The Round-up will involve university faculty, administrators, financial aid personnel and recruiters. There will also be entertainment from SU's Marching Band and cheerleaders. The students will also receive tickets to the Southern University-Clark Atlanta football game at 6 that night in A.W. Mumford Stadium.

The university also encourages parents and high school juniors to attend.

Students who meet certain criteria will be offered scholarships at the event. The offers could range from full scholarships to major assistance and others.

"Our intent is to show high school students and their parents that Southern University offers an great and affordable education with limitless opportunities after graduation," said Chancellor Dr. James L. Llorens.

Last year more than 500 students and their parents attended the event. "We hope we can double that this year," said Robert Rene, interim Director of Admissions and Recruitment.

There is a $25 fee for each attendee.
