Governor John Bel Edwards to deliver keynote at Southern University Founders’ Day

UPDATE: These activities have been postponed until a later date due to coronavirus concerns.

Southern University throughout March will celebrate its annual Founders’ Day. The university, which was established in 1880, is celebrating “140 Years of Excellence and Impact” in Louisiana and throughout the world. The Convocation, to be held on Monday, March 16, will feature Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards as the keynote speaker. The event will be held at 10 a.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the Baton Rouge campus.

Southern was established as an act of legislature, with its first campus in New Orleans. The institution relocated to Baton Rouge as part of its land grant mission in 1914. Since then, the university has grown into the only system of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the nation. Campuses today include Southern University Baton Rouge, Southern University at New Orleans, Southern University Shreveport and Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
