Southern University Dance Minor Program to host spring concert and gala

The Southern University Dance Minor Program will present Ascension: Rising Through Movement, a spring dance concert and gala showcasing student and faculty work.

The performance will feature dance minors alongside student collaborators and faculty artists. The concert includes a range of works in modern, African diasporic, jazz and contemporary dance, highlighting student artistry, cultural expression and choreographic research.

“This concert is a reflection of our students’ growth, discipline, and creative voice,” said Roxi Victorian, director of the Southern University Dance Minor Program. “What audiences will witness is not just performance, but a collective rising—an embodiment of the power, history, and future of dance at Southern University.”

Victorian says the concert serves as a culminating performance for the academic year and celebrates the continued growth of the Dance Minor Program. It also reflects the program’s commitment to culturally relevant dance practices and providing opportunities for students to collaborate with faculty artists in a performance setting.

The event will take place at the Frank Hayden Theater on the Southern University campus, with an evening performance scheduled for Thursday, April 30, and a gala performance on Friday, May 1.

Tickets for the Thursday performance are $7 for students and $10 for general admission. Tickets for the Friday gala are $15 for students and $35 for general admission.
