Southern University System secures $360M to launch 'Imagine Southern' capital campaign
The Southern University System and the Southern University Foundation have announced that the Imagine Southern Capital Campaign has secured $360 million in public and private gifts. The unprecedented funding for the Southern University System is part of a $750 million fundraising campaign to advance its five campuses — Southern University and A&M College, Southern University at New Orleans, Southern University at Shreveport, Southern University Law Center, and the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center. Funds are also being raised for the Southern University Laboratory School (Pre-K-12). To date, the seven-year campaign (2024-2030) has raised nearly 50 percent of its goal in just two years.
“This $360 million investment represents more than new buildings — it's a belief in Southern's future and in the students we serve,” said Dennis J. Shields, president of the Southern University System. “The generosity of our public partners, private donors, and alumni is helping us create spaces that inspire innovation, opportunity, and excellence across all of our campuses, while driving the growth and impact of our endowments for generations to come."
Although the funding campaign is still in its quiet phase, substantial investments have laid a strong foundation, propelling the campaign ahead of its intended public phase schedule.
