Southern University’s Human Jukebox Proudly Joins ‘MICHAEL CELEBRATES: Legacy, Artistry, Culture’

Today, in celebration of Black History Month, and in anticipation of the worldwide theatrical release of “MICHAEL,” the Southern University “Human Jukebox” Marching Band is joining with two other HBCU bands to honor the legacy and music of Michael Jackson by showcasing their own distinct interpretation of Jackson’s classic hit, "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough.” Through powerful performances rooted in culture, tradition, and pride, the initiative honors the shared, enduring relationship between the HBCU communities and Michael’s life and music.

“MICHAEL CELEBRATES: Legacy, Artistry, Culture” pays tribute to Jackson’s legacy through powerful performances rooted in culture, tradition, and pride. The initiative reflects the shared, enduring relationship between the HBCU community and Michael’s life and music.

“For generations, the music of Michael Jackson has shaped global culture and left an undeniable imprint on the sound and spirit of HBCU bands,” said Kedric Tayor, director of bands at Southern. “From ‘PYT’ to ‘Thriller’ and beyond, his catalog ignites an energy that moves our audiences to their feet every single time. To carry his music as part of the Human Jukebox tradition is an honor, which we embrace in celebrating the legacy of a true musical visionary.”

The Human Jukebox and the Fabulous Dancing Dolls have a storied history beloved in Louisiana and beyond. Having performed in U.S. presidential inaugurations, Super Bowls, and other major events, the “often imitated but never duplicated” ensemble continues to not only entertain but to inspire intergenerational audiences around the world. Members have appeared in music videos and feature films, including Beyonce’s “Homecoming.” In 2025, the band was selected as ESPN’s “Band of the Year.”

“For Michael’s fans everywhere, his legacy of performance and artistry is enduring. That legacy lives powerfully within HBCU communities, where music, movement, and excellence have long been expressions of culture, pride, and identity,” said Briana McElroy, head of digital marketing for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “This initiative is deeply personal to me — I grew up listening to these bands, who represent Black excellence, community, and creativity. Partnering with these HBCUs is about honoring that legacy while creating space for the next generation to
lead, perform, and inspire.”

You can see the Human Jukebox’s performance now on official Southern University social media platforms and across the “MICHAEL” movie socials.
