The Southern University HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (SU-HAPP) provides leadership in coordinating campus programs designed to increase awareness, provide linkages to essential resources, conduct HIV/AIDS related education, and build sustainable community relationships to affiliates on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. SU-HAPP works to build skills, abilities and resources in the University community to prevent HIV infection. The program engages University students, faculty and staff, and community organizations to strengthen their skills, talents, and resources through participatory training and working with campus and community based organizations to curtail the spread of HIV. SUHAPP is committed to enlightening and empowering the youth of Southern University and Baton Rouge by advocating healthy sexual practices and HIV testing.
The SUHAPP goals are:
1) To increase the HIV/AIDS prevention knowledge among all students attending Southern University and;
2) To reduce the risk and contraction of HIV among all students attending Southern University.
To achieve these goals, the program objectives are:
1) To implement holistic, multi-disciplinary education and prevention training modules and activities on HIV/AIDS and STD prevention for SUBR students and their partners;
2) To develop the capacity of SUBR to adequately address HIV/AIDS and STD prevention education needs of all students and their partners;
3) To establish partnerships with campus student organizations and community organizations to increase access to reproductive health education, behavioral risk-reduction information, counseling, and HIV and STD testing for all students and their partners and;
4) To establish networks of HIV health-related services for all persons attending Southern University.
