A tension-torsion universal testing machine is available for testing a variety of specimens. The most common type of test conducted on this machine is in simple tension and/or compression using metallic or cementitious specimens. The machine has been used for performing numerous low and high cycle fatigue tests on steel specimens, weld coupons, and other metal objects. In its bi-axial mode numerous experiments have been conducted on the tension-torsion behavior of steel bars, steel tubes, concrete cylinders and concrete-filled steel tubes. The test machine has also been used extensively for testing a variety of dampers including 3M viscous dampers, as well as elastomeric and viscous (oil) hydraulic dampers.
