Pinkie Gordon Lane Winners 2021

Winners of John B. Cade Library’s Pinkie Gordon Lane Poetry Contest were announced this month. Usually, student participants would visit the Southern University-Baton Rouge campus to recite their poems and receive awards during a special ceremony. To celebrate participants this year, finalists will be featured on the Library’s website and in a social media campaign on Facebook and Instagram.

Four ranked prizes and four honorable mentions were awarded by contest judges using a preset rubric. Serving as judges were Dr. Rasheedah Jenkins, Judging Panel Chair, Assistant Professor, Department of English, College of Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies, Southern University; Dr. Jack Bedell, Professor and Graduate Coordinator of Creative Writing, Department of English, College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Southeastern University; Dr. Vonsha Henderson, Associate Professor, Department of English, College of Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies, Southern University; Dr. Sumita Roy, Associate Professor, Department of English, College of Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies, Southern University.
