Southern, LSBDC to host global and product innovation sessions for entrepreneurs

When innovation meets entrepreneurship, great things happen. The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and the Southern University Innovation Center are bringing to the capital region a series of trainings through an event called, "Innovate Now! When Innovation Meets Entrepreneurship" that will begin on January 16, 2018, at the Southern University Innovation Center located at 616 Harding Blvd, Baton Rouge.

Southern University and A&M College among 43 Teacher Prep Programs Recognized for National Excellence in Educator Prep

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) announced November 27, that Southern University and A&M College is one of 43 providers from 22 states and the District of Columbia to receive accreditation for their educator preparation programs.

SU gets $5 million grant for center

Southern University has been awarded a $5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to establish the "Next Generation Composites Crest Center," called NextGenC3, on the university's campus.

SU Nursing student receives nursing scholarship from nursing alumna

Enjoli Courtney, a graduating senior nursing student in the College of Nursing and Allied Health is the recipient of the Fall 2017 P. Morgan Nursing Scholarship awarded by Patrice Walker, a Spring 1995 Southern University School of Nursing alumna.

SUBR Legacy Award now offers children of SU grads full out-of-state fee waiver

Southern University Baton Rouge has revamped its Legacy Award to offer students of at least one parent who is a Southern graduate to receive a 100 percent out-of-state fee waiver instead of the 50 percent wavier previously provided.

SU part of HBCU/SHEEO partnership to increase underrepresented male teachers

Southern University is among several southern states and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) partnering with the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO) to increase the number of underrepresented male teachers. SHEEO was recently awarded a three-year grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to fund Project Pipeline Repair: Restoring Minority Male Participation and Persistence in Educator Preparation Programs (Project PR). The project will engage state policy leaders, educator preparation programs at HBCUs, and partner schools to achieve goals and objectives of the $1.5 million award.
