Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students informs and guides students by providing clarity on their social and academic responsibility while supporting and developing student leadership and character.  The Office is essential to the protection and promotion of the University for the following interests and purposes:

  • Assisting students in attaining their educational objectives while understanding their social responsibility;

  • Maintaining a safe, intellectual campus community;

  • Protecting the health, safety, and property of all members of the campus community, and

  • Protecting the reputation of the University.

The Office of the Dean of Students supports the constitutional rights of Southern University and A&M College's student population, including ensuring due process in student disciplinary matters, and promoting campus safety and harmony by maintaining an environment consistent with the University's educational purposes and operations.  The Office protects the University's educational purpose and the interest of its student body, when the actions of individuals or groups are in conflict with the welfare and integrity of the University.  This responsibility is managed through the rules and regulations of the Student Code of Conduct and the University's judicial system.  The Office's main goal is to make Southern University and A&M College an environment that promotes academic excellence while producing world class citizens.

The Office of the Dean of Students has four focal areas:

  • Student Rights, Advocacy, and Accountability

  • Campus Safety

  • Leadership Development

  • Civic Responsibility

These focal areas ensure students uphold their commitment to the University and the Jaguar Nation.
