The 2013-2014 will be a critical for Southern University as the school goes through an organizational change while at simultaneously attempting to build enrollment and stave off financial challenges, Chancellor James L. Llorens said today.

Southern University students nominated and voted Drs. Jarrett Landor-Ngemi and Chanika Jones as their favorite teachers. Landor-Ngemi is an assistant professor in the College of Education and Jones is an Associate Professor in Criminal Justice. Landor-Ngemi has been in the College of Education since 2009, while Jones came to the Criminal Justice in 2008.

Southern University’s Dr. Kamran Abdollahi has been selected as the National Committee Chair to the National Association of University Forest Resources Programs for 2013. Abdollahi is a professor and chair of SU’s Urban Forestry Program.

Dr. Victor W. A. Mbarika recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Cameroon Association of Engineers and Computer Scientists (CAECS).

Rachel Vincent-Finley, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, has been awarded a national 2012 Career Enhancement Fellowship for Junior Faculty. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation funds the fellowship.

SU Faculty Senate President Sudhir Kumar Trivedi, PhD, has been selected to receive the American Association of University Professors' J. Thomas Hemrick Award for his "contributions of academic freedom."
