DOTD secretary, alum to speak at annual MLK Unity event

Southern University, in partnership with Louisiana State University and Baton Rouge Community College, will host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity commemoration Thursday, Jan. 24 from 5 -7 p.m. at the Smith–Brown Union Cotillion Ballroom on the campus of Southern University.  Shawn Wilson, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development secretary, will serve as the keynote speaker. Wilson received his Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs at Southern University Baton Rouge.

The Unity event highlights and memorializes the work, accomplishments, and legacy of one of the most recognized Civil Rights figures in modern history. The event strives to engage the greater Baton Rouge community on actualizing King's ideals of social justice, non-violence, education and service.

The event rotates between the three campuses each year. To learn more about the event,  go to http://bit.ly/2SVMca2.
