Chancellor James L. Llorens and his wife, Glenda, made a personal donation of $10,000 on Thursday night at the university’s Christmas Concert to help launch the Chancellor’s Scholarship Fund.

The Center for Service Learning and Southern University students donated several hundred pounds of canned goods to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank today, just in time for the Christmas Holiday.

Representatives of the ExxonMobil Corporation – Baton Rouge presented a check for $25,000 on Tuesday to Southern University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Dr. Diola Bagayoko, Southern University System Distinguished Professor of Physics, was the leader among a group of SU colleagues in physics and engineering to receive a $358,997, one-year grant.

Southern University’s Dr. Rao M Uppu, a professor and Director of the Environmental Toxicology Ph.D. program at Southern University, has recently been elected as a "Fellow" of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS).

Justin Patterson, mass communications major from New Orleans, has launched a video, “Jaguars Go Hard,” dedicated to the 2013 Jaguar football team. Patterson, also known as “J-Spitta,” performed and wrote the lyrics. Shelton Scales Jr., “JScalez,” a junior, mechanical engineering major, produced the song and SU alum Kendal Odum edited the video. “Jaguars Go Hard’’ also features the SU cheerleaders, Gold-N-Bluez dancers and the Woop Woop Boys. Jonas Vanderbilt, coordinator of Students Programs and Greek Life, choreographed the video.

Dr. Diola Bagayoko, the Southern University System Distinguished Professor of Physics, has received a $50,000 grant from the United States Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration.
