Nelson Mandela College presents forums on civic responsibility, diversity in leadership

 

The Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Sciences at Southern University will present two forums focusing on diversity in leadership on Thursday and Friday on campus. Speakers include state and local government officials, education leaders, and more. 

 

On Thursday at 11 a.m., the College presents, "Civic Responsibilities of African-Americans." The panelists will address The Voting Rights Act, the provisions granted in diversity and inclusion clauses, the responsibilities of citizenship and more. The forum will feature Louisiana State Sen. Cleo Fields; Louisiana State Rep. Ted James; Louisiana State Rep. Edmond Jordan; Cleve Dunn Jr., Baton Rouge Metro Airport Commission chairman; and Raegan Carter, a social and public policy advocate. The event will be held in the Frank Hayden Theater.

 

On Friday at 3 p.m., the College presents, "A Meeting of Minds: An Open Discussion on Ladies and Leadership."  The discussion will address the challenges of leadership, preparing to lead, the Women’s Rights Act and more. The discussion will feature Louisiana State Rep. Barbara West Carpenter; Metro Councilwoman Erika Green; Tia Mills, Louisiana Association of Educators president; and Makayla Weber, public adminstration professional. The event will be held in the atrium of Rodney G. Higgins Hall.

 

Both forums are free and open to the public.
