Southern University Engineering Alumni Society welcomes exceptional class of engineering scholars

The Southern University Engineering Alumni Society (SEAS) will welcome 34 outstanding students into the SEAS Engineering Scholars Program this fall, marking another milestone in the program's continued growth. The incoming class enters Southern University with an average high school GPA above 3.8 and an average ACT score of 27, reflecting the university's commitment to attracting high-achieving students and preparing the next generation of engineering leaders.

The scholars will participate in a pinning ceremony on Friday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. in P.B.S. Pinchback Hall on campus.

“The SEAS Engineering Scholars Program reflects our commitment to developing talented students into future engineers, innovators, and leaders,” said Lee Hampton. “This newest class continues a tradition of academic excellence and demonstrates what can be accomplished through the support of our alumni, faculty, industry partners, and the University.”

Since its launch in 2023, the SEAS Engineering Scholars Program has welcomed 81 scholars who receive scholarships, alumni mentoring, tutoring, professional development, career preparation, and opportunities to connect with industry leaders. The program's cohort-based model combines academic support with leadership development to help students succeed in the classroom and beyond.

The program continues to produce meaningful results. SEAS Scholars have earned internships and research opportunities with organizations including Dow, Shell, ExxonMobil, Duke Energy, RTX, Olin, Boeing, Cleco, and Procter & Gamble. These experiences strengthen students' academic preparation while connecting them with career opportunities in engineering and technology.
