Southern University students, programs to be highlighted during official Superbowl events
The Southern University System proudly announces its participation in officially sanctioned NFL Super Bowl events in New Orleans, showcasing the university’s excellence in academics, athletics, and community engagement on a national stage.
“We are thrilled to have Southern University so deeply engaged in the Super Bowl’s official events,” Shields said. “From showcasing our agricultural excellence and nursing leadership to offering hands-on opportunities for our students and bringing the unmatched energy of the Human Jukebox, this is a moment of immense pride for our university and the entire Jaguar Nation. The Professional Pipeline Development Group has provided advisory services and connection to national and global organizations leading to strategic and transformational outcomes now and in the future.”
Highlighting Southern presence at the Super Bowl is the Taste of the NFL on Saturday, where the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center will provide its signature SUN Beef for use by the event’s lead chef in exclusive Super Bowl culinary creations. This initiative will include 12 Southern University students participating in an unparalleled experiential learning opportunity, gaining hands-on experience in food preparation and activation alongside corporate executives, NFL players, and renowned celebrity chefs.
Additionally, Southern University leadership will be prominently featured at the Super Bowl Breakfast hosted by Athletes in Action on Saturday. Among the distinguished guests invited are Dennis J. Shields, president of the Southern University System; John K. Pierre, chancellor of Southern University and A&M College; and James Ammons, chancellor of Southern University at New Orleans. They will join the CEO of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Regional HBCU Presidents, and the Commissioner of the Louisiana Board of Regents. This gathering underscores Southern University’s commitment to mental health advocacy and strategic partnerships that elevate HBCU engagement on a national level.
The Southern University School of Nursing will also take center stage at the breakfast, highlighting its commitment to diversifying the healthcare workforce with a special spotlight on its cohort of over 35 male nursing students. These students, along with key funders and the Southern University Foundation, will be recognized for their contributions to the field and their commitment to excellence in nursing education.
Capping off Southern University’s presence at the Super Bowl, the world-renowned Human Jukebox Marching Band will take the field for the Big Game on Sunday, further solidifying Southern University’s legacy of excellence and cultural impact in the realm of sports and entertainment.
“SUBR (Southern University and A&M College) has a legacy of being made for big moments,” Pierre said. “Our dedication to student success allows for comprehensive actions in real-time to take advantage of opportunities for everyone, including faculty, leadership, and staff.”
