One on One Consultations and Peer Review Circles

One on One Consultations

These meetings will be between a student and a consultant. One on one consultations are designed to improve student work and encourage students to take an active role in the revision of their work. Writing consultations will be student-centered. That means they will largely be guided by conversations about the work. The student must email a copy of the paper/project to the consultant. Consultants will pose questions and will use the answers to tailor the session to the needs and skill level of the student.

Group Meetings

These meetings will require at least two students to sign up. Group meetings are meant to foster a collaborative energy in the process of revising work. Students will be asked to read their peers’ work before the meeting in order to ensure that they are ready to discuss areas that need improvement. The consultant will also read the papers or projects ahead of time. For the meeting, the students will have a conversation about their work, while the consultants facilitate the discussion. Only one student will be responsible for signing the group up. S/he must include all of their names, SU email addresses. This student must email copies of all of the papers/projects to the consultant.

Note: We encourage students to schedule ahead of time (preferably at least twelve hours) to allow the communication consultant to read the work before the meeting. The full thirty minutes will then be centered on the consultant's feedback and the student's plan for revision. However, students are allowed to schedule the moment of, if the time slot is open. If this is the case, the communication consultant will read the student's work during the thirty minute time slot, and if there is time left, the consultant will then review the feedback. If there is no time left or if the student and consultant run out of time, the student will be required to schedule another appointment in order to receive the rest of the feedback.
