SUBR-LIGO Docent Alumni - Who We Are?

Docents are students who major in science, technology, engineering, education, or mathematics (STEEM). They are trained by staff from the Exploratorium: Museum of Science, Art, and Human Perception and from LIGO. Docents use their training to facilitate and guide visitor experiences at LIGO in Livingston Parish. In addition, they participate in community outreach opportunities where they serve as role models for K-12 students. Since 2007, the Docent Program has trained over 150 undergraduate students.

To provide opportunities for former docents to connect, the Docent Alumni Network was developed. The vision of the Docent Alumni Network centers around strengthening the docent STEM pipeline, providing support for the alumni, and supporting docent alumni with STEM outreach efforts.

Docent Alumni are located throughout the southern portion of the United States.

Docent Alumni have careers with the following businesses, organizations, and industries:

DOW, Georgia Pacific, Georgia State Department of Transportation, Homeland Security, Hydrogen Energy, KIPP Polaris, Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), Lockheed Martin, Oscar Health, Procter and Gamble, Southwest Airlines, STEM Nola, Texas School of Education, and West Baton Rouge Parish Schools
