The Student Technology Fee Overview

In 1998, Southern University and A&M College estabished the student technology fee in accordance with Louisiana law. The fee is paid by every student enrolled at the university and cannot be waived. The purpose of Southern's student technology fee is to establish and enhance the technology infrastructure, which impacts student learning and student life. The Plan provides for implementing, replacing, improving, and expanding technologies to benefit student life and learning.
Details about the fee and how it must be set up are available at LA Rev Stat 17:3351.1. The statute specifically defines "technologies" as "instructional and laboratory equipment and the networking and supporting computer and telecommunications infrastructure.
Purpose of the Student Technology Fee Oversight Committee
The Student Technology Fee Oversight Committee assists the university in ensuring that funds derived from the fee are allocated based on the Southern University and A&M Student Technology Fee Plan. It is an advisory committee that provides guidance, direction and recommendations for the use of the student technology fee. This committee is appointed by Chancellor and the Student Government Association President.
