Mission

Southern University Office of Facility Services (OFS) and Architectural Planning is committed in the developmental, architectural design, administrative management, and in developing the intellectual growth of students, the public, and private sector to better serve the University.

The OFS is responsible for maintaining an environment that is pleasing, functional and safe in support of Southern University and A&M College. Our services focus on: ensuring easy access to, from and around campus facilities; improving the state of the physical environment through construction projects; maintaining the quality of the physical environment through repair, proactive maintenance and exterior maintenance; providing utilities distribution, energy management, waste management; and maintaining a secure environment with emergency response. Our continuing goal is to develop and maintain a methodology which ensures an efficient and cost effective professional department.

In order for the OFS to excel as related to its mission, OFS offers 24-hour services for the maintenance and physical condition of the university as a whole. The OFS is currently located in the Benjamin Kraft Building which is comprised of a number of professionals ranging from a director, architects, engineers, managers, supervisors, administrative assistants,  skilled craftsmen, technicians, and support personnel. All personnel have the education, training, and experience, or combination thereof, to enable that skilled individuals to perform the assigned functions. Additionally, OFS has three core departments; The Physical Plant, Custodial Services, and Landscaping Services. A description of each core department is listed below:

Department of Physical Plant was established to respond and provide corrective actions as deemed necessary to ensure that the planning, construction, and preventative maintenance of systems are operable, safe, and provides an overall suitability for the university.

Department of Custodial Services provides cleaning services for all academic buildings on campus. In addition, this department ensures that the environment is safe, clean, healthy, and conducive for intellectual growth and development in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

Department of Landscaping Services was designed to maintain the natural beauty of approximately 520 acres overlooking the mighty majestic Mississippi River, Lake Kernan. and the natural ravines that flow throughout the campus.
