On display in the Visual Arts Gallery in Frank Hayden Hall at Southern University Baton Rouge is the 8th Annual Homecoming Art Exhibition. The exhibit features works from seven members of the Roosevelt Daniel Art Guild. The Guild is group of artists from Shreveport who studied with and is paying tribute to the late professor Roosevelt Daniel. Daniel was the founding chairman of the Fine Arts Program at Southern University Shreveport (SUSLA).

Aloyce R Kaliba, SU Baton Rouge College of Business professor of economics and statistics and Ben D. Johnson Endowed Professor in Business, was awarded a fellowship by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program to travel to Tanzania to work with Anne G. Gongwe, dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication at St. Augustine University of Tanzania, on collaborate research, graduate teaching, and young faculty mentoring.

Southern University participated in the 2016 Belize Study Abroad program with Wesley Junior College in Belize, Central America, May 15-June 5. The three-week program was coordinated through the SU Center for International Affairs and University Outreach, directed by dean and state representative Barbara Carpenter, with assistant to the dean, Kristan Gordon.

HBCU Digest recently announced the finalists in 28 categories for the sixth installment of the national award ceremony that acknowledges and celebrates achievements at historically black colleges and universities throughout the United States.
